From the moment your baby enters the world; your new baby will need to wear a baby diaper. They will go through up to 10 diapers a day as a new born. That’s a lot of diaper changes! Due to the amount of diapers your baby will go through you want to make sure they are secure and don’t leak. You will often find in the new born diapers there will be a cut out for the umbilical cord clip to fit in. This can be very tricky when trying to use a baby diaper without this cut out as the cord is rather large.Â
You want to make sure that the baby diaper is soft to touch, and will keep your baby’s skin dry at all times. And that it won’t irritate your little ones skin. You can use either disposable diapers, which can be more expensive, but you can literally just throw them in the bin once they are used and most diaper brands are bio degradable. These have a protective layer in which will absorb the wetness and leave your baby feeling dry. Or there are the re-usable diaper cloths. These type you fasten with a pin, or you can now get special Velcro padded baby diaper cloths. You buy the inlay to go inside the nappy and help absorb the wetness, and then you place the dirtied diapers in the wash to be used again and again.
Many mums use a barrier cream when changing their baby’s diaper. But this is not essential. As your baby grows, there are different sizes and styles of diaper that you can go for. When your baby starts to crawl, the diaper can have a flexible side strap as well as more room to move around the leg area. This is important as you do not want to restrict your baby from becoming mobile. There is also a pull up style diaper that toddlers can use as they begin to walk. This helps the child in the transition to regular underwear when the time comes. You can even buy diapers that are specifically for swimming or night time wear only! When you decide to toilet train your baby, there are special baby’s diapers you can use that make your child feel grown up yet still cover them in case of an emergency. Diapers all have the same concept though, which is to keep your child dry and comfortable.
Baby diapers even come in fashionable colours and novelty patterns these days. You could see your baby wearing a denim style diaper and be the height of the cat walk!
When purchasing your diapers it is best to go by the weight of your baby to know the exact size that will be comfortable to wear. Most new born packs will come with a complementary free gift like a hat or baby wipe case. Diapers all have the same concept though, which is to keep your child dry and comfortable. You can buy the older baby diaper packs and re-usable diaper cloths in bulk in most retail stores.
